Dr. Tanya Markis-Meyer, Owner & President
Dr. Tanya Markis-Meyer holds a Bachelor of Sciences Degree in Biological Sciences from Sacramento State University and her Doctor of Optometry Degree from the Southern California College of Optometry. She was a key member of a Sacramento private practice for ten years prior to residing in Nevada County. She is the Associate Optometry Director at one of the largest vision insurance companies in the nation, where she assists in the development of quality care guidelines for optometrists and their patients. She is also a member of the American Optometric Association, the Sacramento Valley Optometric Society, the Grass Valley/Nevada County Chamber of Commerce, the California Optometric Association, and a former Board member of the Soroptimist International of the Sierra Foothills. Some of you may have met her before when she was an associate of Dr. Brian McPartland from 1997-2000 here in Grass Valley.
Dr. Markis-Meyer is licensed in the treatment and management of ocular disease, including glaucoma, and is certified in the co-management of laser eye surgery and cataract surgery. Grass Valley Eyecare is fortunate to have the assistance of our highly educated and well established associate doctors who continue to expand their knowledge by taking continuing education courses to ensure that we can provide the newest treatments and services to safeguard your vision.

Breeana Alexander, OD
It was a journey for Dr. Bree to be here with us today. Believe it or not, her schooling began working on a bachelor's in architecture. She quickly learned being great at something isn't the same as being passionate about it. She switched majors and focused on the human body and Graduated Cal Poly Pomona with a bachelors in kinesiology exercise science. Still unsure of the next step, she became a certified 200hr RYT yoga instructor learning the connection between mind and body. She sparked an interest in optometry after speaking with her own optometrist. The more and more she learned, the more she fell in love and received her optometry doctorate at Marshall B. Ketchum. She is a firm believer in following the heart's desire. For her, it's not only peering into her patients' eyes, but to make sure they are physically, emotionally, and mentally healthy as a whole.
From a very young age, Dr. Bree has found peace in the outdoors, sketching nature, and being among animals. In her free time, her and her husband love to mountain bike, hike, fish, and off-road. These passions are what lead them from Southern California to here, their new home.
Mike Meyer, Owner & Office Manager
With our optical lab on site, many of our glasses are made right here on the premises. Mike makes sure they meet our high standards. He also verifies that the lenses handled by outside laboratories are made to specification. He will often dispense glasses to patients, and repair and adjust frames. Mike is also our most qualified optometric technician, administering visual field and OCT diagnostic tests. After years in the operating room as a surgical technician, Mike brings meticulous accuracy to his work in the office.
Toni, Receptionist
Toni joined our team in 2022, bringing with her years of experience in customer service. While she usually is the first to greet you in person or on the phone, Toni also assists with eyeglasses repairs, dispensing orders, and preliminary testing. After many years of traveling “down the hilee”, she found a place at Grass Valley Eyecare that allows her to support the community she has lived in for over 22 years. Toni enjoys spending time with her family and friends watching sports, baking, and taking trips to the ocean.
Whitney, Optometric Technician
Whitney has 14 years of experience in the optical field. She has worked as an Optician, pre-tester and receptionist. She has been with Grass Valley Eyecare since 2024. She enjoys assisting the Doctor by performing preliminary vision tests on patients. Whitney was born and raised in Grass Valley. When not at work she enjoys shopping, sewing, collecting house plants and reading.
Natalie, Optometric Technician/Lab Assistant
Natalie joined Grass Valley Eyecare in October of 2023 assisting in the lab receiving orders. She quickly jumped in to assist with preliminary testing of patients, front desk duties and eyeglasses repairs. Natalie always brings a positive attitude and has a bright, cheerful personality while dealing with any obstacle that may come her way. She is a Grass Valley native, a Bear River High School graduate, and a Grass Valley Eyecare patient since she was a child. Natalie enjoys helping patients and supporting her community. Outside of work, she enjoys watching competitive sports, photography, swimming, exploring new genres of music, and viewing art.
Cynthia, Optician
Cynthia has over 20 years of experience in the optical field and has been with Grass Valley Eyecare since 2011. Her great expertise is helping our patients select the best lenses and frames for their needs. She is well versed in the technical side of optics and can explain with ease and certainty the choices that are available, advising and guiding our patients so that the best results are achieved. Her outside interests include baking, sewing, scrapbooking, and gardening—in fact, she holds a master's degree in biology with a concentration in botany. Her favorite activities are walks on the beach and spending time with her daughter, grandchildren, and her dog, Lindy.
Amber, Staff
Amber has been with Grass Valley Eye Care since 2022 and her knowledge and skills with optical has soared. Not only does she assist patients in selecting frames and lenses, but also assists with administering visual fields and other special testing, contact lens training, and many other office tasks. Amber enjoys spending time with her kids, animals, books, and long walks on the beach.
Adrienne, Billing
Adrienne has been with Grass Valley Eyecare for many, many years beginning with front desk, insurance, and optician in 1994. She now works on the insurance desk part time as she "retired" in 2014. Adrienne feels it is a joy to work with Drs. Tanya and Breeana, manager Mike, and the great staff. When not at GVEC, she enjoys cooking, reading, and classic movies.
